Coffee Education

At Hudsons Coffee our aim is to provide that perfect cup just the way you like it, every time. We know that not everyone’s tastes are the same and this is especially true where coffee is concerned. Some like a more intense flavour whereas others prefer a smoother, more balanced taste. That’s why we have recently developed a second quality coffee blend, sourced from the world’s best coffee-growing regions and expertly roasted in Melbourne. Now, when you visit one of our stores you can enjoy your coffee just the way you like it by choosing the blend that best suits your tastes.

OUR BLENDS:

Hudsons Premium Blend - Our original blend released in 1998; a medium/dark roast, made up of 100% Arabica beans sourced from South & Central America, and Africa. With subtle flavour hints of cocoa and vanilla, our Hudsons Premium blend has a smooth and balanced taste that can only be described as delicious!

Barista's Choice Blend - Released in May 2013; a darker roast, made up of three specialty Arabica beans sourced from the high altitudes of Ethiopia and Brazil, as well as the high quality Kaapi Royale Robusta bean from India. This blend provides a traditional and intense taste in your cup from first sip to last, with an earthy flavour and caramel undertone.

Some things we think you’ll love to know about coffee.

  • Coffee is the seed inside a cherry that grows on coffee trees. As a raw product coffee is called a green bean. The green bean is one of two seeds from the cherry and is covered in protective layers of fruit pulp and skin.
  • The two most common species of coffee commercially grown are Arabica and Robusta.
  • Robusta is a hardier plant and produces more ‘robust’ and earthy flavours.
  • Arabica grows at high altitudes and produces finer and sweeter flavours.
  • Coffee is a fresh product just like fruit and vegetables and great care is needed to maintain its fresh flavours.
  • It takes incredible skill and controlled cultivation to deliver high quality coffee beans.
  • Both of our blends are roasted in Melbourne and delivered fresh to our stores two to three times a week.
  • The perfect espresso should have a balance of sweetness, acidity and bitterness.
